Receipt of the Union Fire Society. $1.75 was paid to Richard Pedrick for "Shoveling Snow and Spreding drying and housing Sails." The Union Fire Society was founded in 1804. Members of the society were to assist each other in the event of a fire at their home or business. Each was given 2 leather water buckets, a large cloth bag with which to retrieve possessions, and a bed key. Additionally, the society was to assist those members who had suffered losses due to fire. Annual meetings were held in January and there was a constitution by which society members were to abide. |
