This is a document granting Thomas D. Connolly to be one of the justices of the peace for 7 years. "To all to whom these presents shall come, Greetings: Know ye that we, confiding in the ability, discretion and integrity of Thomas D. Connolly of Beverly in our county of Essex do hereby, assign, constitute and appoint him, the said Thomas D. Connolly to be one of our justices of the peace within and for the commonwealth, for and during the term of seven years from the date of these presents, if he shall so long behave himself well in the said office. And we do hereby authorize and enjoin him, the said Thomas D. Connolly to keep and cause to be kept the laws and ordinances made for the good of the peace, and for the conservation of the same, and for the quiet, rule and government of our citizens and subjects, and to execute and perform all the powers and duties which, by our laws, appertain to the said office, so long as he shall hold the same by virtue of these presents. Witness, hie Excellency, W. Murray Crane, our governor, and our seal, hereunto affixed, at Boston, this sixth day of February, in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and one and of the Independence of the United States of America, the one hundred and twenty-fifth. By his Excellency the governor with the advice and consent of the council." It is signed by William M. Oliv Secretary of the Commonwealth. The back of the paper contains signatures that Thomas D. Connolly took the oath as well as excerpts from chapters 21 and 205 of the Public Statues. |
