A letter of proclamation from The Beverly American Revolution Bicentennial Committee and the Mayor of the City of Beverly James A. Vitale in regards to Reuben Kennison Day on April 19, 1975. The proclamation states: Whereas, Reuben Kennison, a Beverly Minute Man hurriedly left his home on April 19, 1775 to join the resistance to the British, and Whereas, After a most determined cross-country effort, arrived at Arlington, then called Menotomy, where he was engaged in a savage battle, and while responding to service in the cause which he manfully upheld, gave his all, and Whereas, In laying down his life, Reuben Kennison became the first of a long line of dedicated Beverly patriots; Now, Therefore, I, James A. Vitale of the City of Beverly, Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim as Reuben Kennison Day April 19, 1975 and urge that the story of Reuben Kennison be told; that the high spirit and purpose which possessed this volunteer should receive appropriate recognition and that the value of the lesson to be drawn from his conduct be sincerely and rightfully appraised. I also urge participation by the citizenry in appropriate events held in his honor. Given at City Hall, Beverly, Massachusetts By His Honor the Mayor |
