Treasurer's Account of the Union Fire Society, dated January 9, 1816. Robert Rantoul was the Treasurer at the time. Account mentions Nathaniel Lamson as well as members of the committe that examined and approved the account: Isaac Flagg, Arthur Howe, and a third, illegible name. The account includes stocks belonging to the Society, interest and dividends earned, and deposits made. Banks and institutions the Society dealt with at the time included The Beverly Marine Insurance Company and The Beverly Bank. The Union Fire Society was founded in 1804. Members of the society were to assist each other in the event of a fire at their home or business. Each was given 2 leather water buckets, a large cloth bag with which to retrieve possessions, and a bed key. Additionally, the society was to assist those members who had suffered losses due to fire. Annual meetings were held in January and there was a constitution by which society members were to abide. |
