An invoice of cargo shipped on board the Ship Mary with the master John Thissel. This ship was bound for Genoa by and on the account of Israel Thorndike. The cargo included 3849 1/2 quintals of merchantable spring and summer fish at $4.60 for a total of $17705.40. There were seventeen barrels of cod oil at $17.00 for a total of $289.00. There were twelve tierces of salmon at $18.00 for a total of $216.00. There was also an invoice of sixty-four bales of dry goods, four boxes of tea and a one foot box of mace for a total of $18711.32. The amount carried forward was $36921.72. Israel Thorndike acknowledged that "the property contained in the annexed invoice has been accounted for by Capt. John Thissel + he is hereby discharged from all responsibility there for." This latter part was signed and dated in Beverly on May 24, 1802. This was signed and sealed by Joseph Wood, Esquire. The British consul in the New England states, Thomas MacDonogh, also signed the back of this document. This document is one large piece of paper that has been folded in half. There is a list of private adventurers with itemized deductions for the following individuals: John Thissel, Israel Lovett, William Porter, Elliot Woodberry, Thorndike Thissel, Caesar Russel, Thomas Lakeman, George Gallop, William Clackston, Thomas Picket, William Nichols, Benjamin Speed and John Cabot. This list was compiled by John Cabot in Beverly on November 4, 1801. |
