Copy of will of Benjamin Balch Dodge. In the will, he appoints his wife, Hannah M. Dodge (nee Hannah Maria Ellcott) and nephew, John Perley Stone as executors and outlines how and to whom his possessions shall be left. Benjamin Balch Dodge died on July 31, 1915. He is listed as retired in the 1915 city directory of Beverly, MA. The 1884 city directory lists him as a carpenter while the 1900 census records list him as a landlord. He left all of his estate to his wife until her death after which the remainder of the estate would go equally to his living nephews and neices. He also allows for his wife's sister, Eliza P. Cass (widow of Calvin Cass) to reside with his wife. John Perley Stone is listed as "J. Pearley Stone" in the 1915 city directory and as a letter carrier. His home is listed as 478 Rantoul St. The will was witnessed by Samuel H. Stone, L. Stanford Wilson, and Hattie H. Cunningham. Samuel H. Stone was, at various times, the proprietor of an insurance and real estate business located at 164 Cabot Street and founded in 1877; a notary public; a justice of the peace; and a correspondent to the Salem News. He resided at 42 Central St. L. Stanford Wilson, (a.k.a. Leland S. Wilson) was a clerk at 164 Cabot Street (Samuel H. Stone's office location). He boarded in the upper apartment of 26 West Dane Street. Hattie H. Cunningham was an unmarried nurse in 1915 boarding in the upper apartment of 8 Fayette St. |
