An eleven page document which contains the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General Division of Public Charities Form PC of the Greater Beverly College Club, Inc. This was compiled by Dorothea M. Nixon. The Greater Beverly College Club, formerly known as the Beverly College Club, was formed in 1924 to interest ourselves in the college ambitions of Beverly girls, to seek out and foster their hopes, and to further them in any material way that seemed possible; to perpetuate our own interests in things of the mind - to help us retain our special quality as college women; and to be a salutary influence in the community. Scholarships were awarded to undergraduate girls who had successfully completed one year of college work. In 1952, girls who would be freshmen in the fall became eligible. Girls from the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School were added in 1958/1959. Almost four-hundred girls were recipients of scholarships from the organization. A book was awarded to a junior girl in the college preparatory course who was outstanding in scholarship, leadership and service. It became known as the Junior Book Award. This award, started in 1925, continued through the eighties. The membership in the beginning was thirty-three women. It peaked at one-hundred and eighty-three in 1965. There were thirty-three members in 2004, the last year of the organization. |
