Account of the Union Fire Society of money owed by certain members of said society. Those owing include Augustus Lovett, B. Beckford, Elisha Whitney, Jr., Mark Knowlton, a Mr. Mackey (first name illegible), and William H. Lovett. These last two owed money for "fines" with the other money owed being unspecified. Mr. Batchelder (first name illegible), "Junior Clerk," prepared the account. The Union Fire Society was founded in 1804. Members of the Society were to assist each other in the event of a fire at their home or business. Each was given 2 leather water buckets, a large cloth bag with which to retrieve possessions, and a bed key. Additionally, the Society was to assist those members who had suffered losses due to fire. |
