Roster ("Assessment") of the Union Fire Society from July, 13, 1807. There were 30 members at the time. They were, John Dyson, Robert Rantoul, Nicholas Thorndike, Nathaniel Goodwin, John Page, Jr., Robert Haskell, Josiah Batchelder, Jr., Henry Thorndike, William Leach, Samuel Goodridge, Thomas Woodberry, Thomas Woodberry, Jr., Mark Knowlton, John B. Allen, Augustus Lovett, Hugh Hill, Thomas Davis, Timothy Wyer, Isaac Flagg, Robert Porter, Peter Woodberry, Jr., James Worsley, Isaac Rea, John Burley, Rufus Nourse, William O. Wyer, Benjamin Beckford, Jonathan H. Lovett, Elisha Whitney, and Charles Dennis. Along with the Roster is a list of members who owe the Society money and the amounts owed. The Union Fire Society was founded in 1804. Members of the Society were to assist each other in the event of a fire at their home or business. Each was given 2 leather water buckets, a large cloth bag with which to retrieve possessions, and a bed key. Additionally, the Society was to assist those members who had suffered losses due to fire. Annual meetings were held in January and dues were paid. There was also a constitution by which members of the Society abided. |
