1773 note signed by Joseph Herrick to Captain Nicholas Bartlett of Marblehead and Captain William Bartlett of Beverly who were the executors of Mary Woodberry's estate. The note is regarding a black woman named Render who was part of the estate; she was appraised at 36 pounds. Mary Herrick, Joseph's wife was to receive a portion of the estate. Herrick apparently is taking Render as his wife's portion of the estate and he promised to return her or a proportion of her worth to the estate. |
