Book "Historic Salem in Four Seasons; A Camera Impression by Samuel Chamberlain." Photographs of the colonial sights of the city of Salem, Massachusetts circa the mid-1930's. Includes black-and-white photos of the newly-built Pioneer Village, the old City Alms House, the waterfront before its restoration as the first National Historic Site, Chestnut Street when it was still lined with chestnut trees, and interior shots of the Turner-Ingersoll house, in all four seasons. Bookplate inside front cover indicates that it was presented to Fred Pierce by The Salem Rotary Club, on 4 November 1952. Samuel Chamberlain published many books of travel photography in the first half of the twentieth century, and was an accomplished cook as well, writing articles for Gourmet magazine. |
