Description |
This is a 3/4 front engineer's side view of Eastern Railroad's first #38 "Geo. Peabody," a 4-4-0 in circa 1865. This locomotive was built by Mason Locomotive Works in 1865. The cylinders measured 16x22 and had a construction number (c/n) of 220. The #38 was renumbered to 138 and renamed the "Cape Ann" when the Boston & Maine Railroad leased the Eastern in 1883. Number #38 was scrapped by the B&M in 1886. This photo was taken at Pacific Mills in Lawrence, Massachusetts. This photo came from the Boston & Maine Railroad's Marketing Department and was complied by Benjamin Thomas. One image is in sepia tone, the second and third photo is grayscale, though the third image is of the highest quality. |
