Description |
Train from Essex backing down from Hamilton and Wenham on its way to Salem. A 4-4-0 type locomotive is running backward with three old wooden open platform coaches in tow, just above North Beverly depot. Locomotives on trains to Essex were often not turned there, but merely put on the other end of the cars and backed up the branch to Hamilton and Wenham station where the branch joined the main line. There they continued on to Salem, the end of that particular run. The operation ended in December of 1942 when the Essex Branch was torn up. |
