Description |
This was built about 1666 by Exercise Conant (son of Roger Conant, one of the first Planters of the Massachusetts Bay Colony). Reverend John Chipman, minister of the Second Church, lived here from 1715 until his death in 1775. He and his wife and their 15 children (13 lived to maturity) lived there until his death. Parts of the stone wall are still evident today. This view was taken from the area what is now 620 Cabot Street looking toward Conant Street. Douglas Avenue now intersects Cabot Street at about where the first pole is in the foreground. This photo was taken from the driveway of the Lummus home, later the Second Church parsonage. |
