Description |
This black and white photograph of Boston & Maine Railroad's #4205, ElectroMotive Division of General Motors (EMD) FT, shows a head-on view. The paint scheme is in the maroon with yellow/gold stripes. The number 4205 is seen on the cab door below the single headlight. The Boston & Maine Railroad used the FT's for frieght service. These FT's were instrumental in delivering home heating oil to northern New England during World War II as the ships that usually delivered the oil were being attacked and/or sunk by German U-Boats along the New England coast. The Boston & Maine Railroad received special dispensation from the War Production Board to receive these locomotives at the height of the War. This is an offical EMD photo and was taken in LaGrange, Illinois sometime in December of 1943. |
