Description |
This is a 3/4 rear fireman's side view of Eastern Railroad #2 "Nahant" at the Mill Street Enginehouse in Salem, Massachusetts, circa mid-1870's. This locomotive was built by Mason in Taunton, Massachusetts in 1860, construction number or C/N #104. The cylinders measured 16x22 and weighed 51,800 pounds. When the Boston & Maine Railroad took over the Eastern in 1883, it was renumbered to #102 and renamed "Gen. Hancock." It was scrapped by the B&M in 1885. This was the second locomotive to numbered 2 and named "Nahant." This photo came from the Boston & Maine Railroad's Marketing Department and was complied by Benjamin Thomas. One image is in sepia tone, the second and third photo is grayscale, though the third image is of the highest quality. The original photo is at the Peabody Essex in Salem, Massachusetts |
