Description |
A glass plate negative of Civil War veteran John B. Thissell (1844-1881), born on November 11, 1844 in Beverly, Massachusetts and enlisted as a Private in the 8th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia on November 7, 1862 and served in the Civil War until the expiration of his term of service on November 16, 1864. He served with the 8th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia for a term of nine months and re-enlisted on April 28, 1864 in the 2nd Unattached Company of the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia until he was discharged on August 4, 1864. He re-enlisted a second time, and served from August 7, 1864-November 15, 1864 until he was honorably discharged in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He joined the Grand Army of the Republic, Post 89 on May 11, 1871 and was a G.A.R. member until his death on March 19, 1881 at the age of 36. |
