Description |
This is an 3/4 fireman's side view of Eastern Railroad's second #6 "Cape Ann," a 4-4-0 on October 20, 1860. This locomotive was built by Taunton Locomotive Works in 1860. Number 6 was built with 15x22 cylinders and the construction number (C/N) is 271. Eastern #6 was renumbered as Boston & Maine #106 and renamed the "Forbes" when the B&M leased the Eastern in 1883. This locomotive was scrapped by the B&M in 1887. This photograph shows a newly minted #6 on the Cunard Dock in East Boston, Massachusetts ready to take the Prince of Wales on a special to Portland, Maine. That is the sailing ship "Batavia" in the background. This photo came from the Boston & Maine Railroad's Marketing Department and was complied by Benjamin Thomas. One image is in sepia tone, the second and third photo is grayscale, though the third image is of the highest quality. The Walker Transportation Collection has a copy negative (#ERL-5 and is located in the Vault). |
