This black and white photograph of Boston & Maine Railroad's #1559, a ElectroMotive Division of General Motors (EMD) GP7, is an engineer's side view. The paint scheme is maroon with yellow/gold striping along the side. The words Boston and Maine are spelled out in maroon lettering agains a yellow/gold background. Above the Boston and Maine lettering is the number 1559 in yellow numbering against the a maroon background. On the cab, below the window is the B&M's "Minute Man" herald. The Boston & Maine Railroad used the GP7 (GP stood for General Purpose) as road switchers. They were primarily used for long haul freight service. This is an official EMD photo and was taken in LaGrange, Illinois sometime in September of 1950. This is a brand new locomotive and the photograph was taken shortly before delivery to the Boston & Maine Railroad. |
