Description |
An offwhite styrofoam hat made to look like like a straw hat with a multicolored band running along the edge that was worn by members of Bucci's Lousy Band. Bucci's Lousy Band was known for appearing at all Beverly events and many others throughout the North Shore including when there was going to possibly be cuts in commuter rail service to the area. There were many different musicians over the years that comprised this band. Charlie Bucci was one of the most beloved figures in the history of the Beverly. He was born in the village of Rocarasso in the province Aquila and first moved to the United States in 1906. His family originally settled in Derry, Pennsylvania and he would later work for the Pennsylvania Railroad and the surrounding steel mills. Charlie married Aquilina Mastrocco in 1928 and they went to Beverly on their honeymoon. A family friend, Simone Acchiavatti, encouraged them to relocate to Beverly and offered to loan the necessary money so that the Buccis could open a grocery store. Charlie Bucci was the longtime proprietor of Bucci's Market, a former city assessor and member of the school committee. He was the founder of the 13 Black Cats and Charlie Bucci's Lousy Band and was known for his portrayal of Santa Claus for over thirty years. He was known for his generosity and thoughtfulness that were felt throughout the community. |
