Description |
1898 oil painting in color by Hugh W, Ditzler entitled "Battle of Monmouth." The battle scene depicts cannons, specifically Oswald's artillery, which had drawn two additional guns from Varnum's brigade, exchanging shots with the enemy (Native Americans). It was the last battle between the British and the Native Americans and took place in Monmouth, New Jersey on June 28, 1778. Painting appears in The story of the Revolution by Henry Cabot Lodge (Volume 1, Page 320) |
