"Conclusion de la Campagne de 1781 en Virginie" mixed line and stipple engraving by Le Mire published in 1781. "To his exellency General Washington this likeness of his friend, the Marquess de la Fayette, is humbly dedicated." In the image Marquess is in the front of the picture plane with his sword in his hand and horse and servant at his side. With his other hand he draws the viewers attention with his pointed finger to soldiers in the background. They are facing the bay where there are many ships and clouds of smoke rise from where they stand. |
