Description |
"Capture of the British Wagon-Train by Marion" is a color oil painting in by Hugh W. Ditzler in 1898. It depicts a British wagon train surprised by Francis Marion's troops in the summer of 1780. Marion was known as the Swamp Fox for his cunning and resourceful guerrilla tactics, which won him battles despite lacking numbers and firepower. The painting is featured in Henry Cabot Lodge's "The Story of the Revolution" (Volume 2, Page 46). It was donated to Beverly Historical Society and Museum by Susan Day Parker in 1904. |
