Platter |
Description |
A Chinese export blue and white porcelain canton style platter. This platter has lightly scalloped rims and a rain and cloud border. Canton is a type of nineteenth century porcelain made in China for export. It consists of a large center panel with exotic houses, mountains and a bridge in blue on white, surrounded by a border. There are two principle variations of the border. The early type has a rain and cloud border and the later type has a straight line border. This was brought back to Beverly by Captain Abraham Kilham (1765-1834) or his son, Charles Abraham Kilham (1812-1865). |
