Scope & Content |
Letter of orders from Nathaniel West to Nicholas Thorndike, master of Brigantine Good Hope. West instructs him that once in Hamburg he is to meet with Rucker & Wortmann and if the bills are accepted to deliver the cargo unto them. He will then carry a cargo of trout from Lisbon to St. Petersburg, and load with iron and hemp for home. If this cannot be done he will either go to Charleston (presumably South Carolina) or the Dutch settlements in the East Indies, from which a cargo can best be obtained from. If he cannot get the correct amount of cargo there he is ordered proceed to Bombay and take a load of cotton, and then proceed to China and take a load of Bohea tea. |
