    Undated document signed by 85 Beverly women to the Senate and House of Representatives stating their opposition to slavery and requesting Congress to abolish the institution in the part of the country where it was legal. Edwin Stone in "History of Beverly" p 184 says the Beverly Anti-Slavery Society formed in 1834 and the Upper Beverly Anti-Slavery Society (we have their constitution) formed in 1837.

    This oil painting of John Pickett was completed by J. H. Young in 1878. He was the son of Thomas and Annis (Preston) Pickett (married 1803) in 1832 he married Martha Fornis (1813- 1834) the daughter of John and Rachel Fornis. He remarried in 1838 to Susan Clark (born in 1812) daughter of Seth Clark of Salisbury MA.
