1795 sailing orders for Captain Nicholas Thorndike of the Schooner Betsey. He was ordered by owner Benjamin Lovett Jr. to sail for France to sell his cargo. He is then ordered to "take a freight" for any of the northern European ports and purchase such things as soap, candles and leather and sail again for France. Lovett goes on to suggest other possible ports and items that might be purchased. This includes Russia and the West Indies. |
